Tanner is our newest member to join our team at The Performance Pursuit. We wanted to give you all a sneak peek at what Tanner is all about and let him share his background and interests in sport psychology!

Welcome to the team, Tanner!

Why sport psychology?

For me, I made the decision to pursue a career in sport psychology because I wanted to be able to provide individuals with an outlet and a resource to continue increasing their ability to perform at their highest level. Having experience with mental skills training and to be able to stay in sport, in some capacity and give back is something I’ve always dreamt of doing in my career.

What is your favorite sport to play? What is your favorite sport to watch?

My favorite sports to play are baseball and darts. I love those sports because the amount of mental skills needed to be successful makes the sport so fascinating to me. My favorite sports to watch are American football and surprisingly darts as well!

Tell me about your absolute favorite moment in your athletic career.

My absolute favorite moment in my athletic career was coming back after season ending injury early in spring baseball and coming back to throw a perfect game against a rival team the summer after my senior year in high school. The support my teammates and I had on that team, is something I will never forget.

If you could have lunch with any athlete, who would it be?

I would have to change this and go with the late Coach John Wooden. His ability to work with athletes and the amount of mental strategies he taught in so many arenas, would have been such an amazing experience to be apart of.

Do you have a favorite mental skill to work on with clients?

I love working on breathing and visualization exercises with clients. I think breathing and visualization are some of the most important skills to utilize in any context, by mastering our breathing and imaginal perspective, we can learn to handle many situations in our sports and life.

Which skill do YOU need to practice more often?

The skill I think I need to practice more often is mindfulness. In this busy world we live in, it can be easy to not be mindful of the present moment. Being mindful provides us with thoughtful experiences that we are engaged in the HERE and NOW!

How do you want people to remember you?

I want to be remembered as a positive role model, thoughtful and hard-working individual willing to do what it takes for the betterment of people I encounter. I am understanding life much more the more I experience and being an advocate for success is something I continue to strive for with anyone I work with.
